MRI has been working continuously with Littleton on creative community development initiatives since 1997. Since then Littleton has been selected as a NH Main Street Community, was featured in USA Today, selected as one of the 10 best small towns in America and recognized for its commitment to accessibility for all citizens. MRI has worked closely with the community in a continual process of planning and implementation of projects designed to assist the community to achieve its goal of “preservation, protection and enhancement of its core village”. Planning efforts have incorporated strong emphasis on ‘walkability’, traffic calming and pedestrian amenities throughout the downtown area which have led to state and federal recognition. MRI facilitated engagement of community leaders, citizen groups, neighborhood organizations and local school officials to focus on a vision for the future. The ensuing community involvement led to NASA choosing Littleton for a town / school partnership program. Building on these and other successes Littleton is in the midst of a true community renaissance that has seen a dramatic increase in sustainable business development, preservation of manufacturing jobs, enhancement of public infrastructure and expanded tourism, all with an eye towards preserving the environment and protection of the small rural character of the community.
